To promote the upcoming release of Dark Phoenix, the Disney-owned Twentieth Century Fox has dubbed today X-Men Day.
While several veteran cast members looked fondly over the franchise in a video, Ryan Reynolds took time out of promoting Detective Pikachu to celebrate X-Men Day on Twitter.
In a post on Twitter, Reynolds said, “Happy #XMenDay. Since the moment I first put on the suit, it’s been the greatest gig of my life. Even “Practice Deadpool” in 2009.”
With “Practice Deadpool,” Reynolds has given his Deadpool from the poorly-reviewed X-Men Origins: Wolverine an unofficial nickname.
Of course, Reynolds went on to have much greater success as Deadpool in 2016’s Deadpool and 2018’s Deadpool 2. In the wake of the Fox-Disney merger, it’s unclear where Reynolds’ Deadpool will appear on-screen again.
Reynolds was no stranger to the comic book film genre before playing Deadpool. He starred in 2011’s Green Lantern and appeared alongside Wesley Snipes in 2004’s Blade: Trinity.
Directed by Rob Letterman from a script written by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, Detective Pikachu stars Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe and the voice of Ryan Reynolds.
